Email: JuanTrevinoLCSW / @ / gmail.com

Creating a strong therapeutic alliance with clients has always been a strength of mine facilitating the building of skills that is so essential in personal growth and the accomplishment of individual and family goals. I believe that therapists are leaders in encouraging clients in life management skills, positive communication, decision making, problem solving and general resolution skills to feel good about themselves and to have positive relationships with others. Simply put; having the tools to constructively express and control your feelings facilitates thought prior to every action, builds perspective of others and allows for children and adults to take responsibility for their own actions. Here is a list of mental health issues that I specialize in and have more extensive training.

Anger Management

ADHD

Adolescents

Autism/Spectrum Disorders

Oppositional Defiant Disorder

Social Skills Deficits

Anxiety Disorders

Children

Individual Adults

Families

Couples

Parent/Child

Parent Coaching

Stress Management

Relationship coaching

Personal Growth

I Graduated from Eastern Michigan University with degrees in Public law and government, and Sociology/Anthropology. Later I attended Michigan State University Graduating Summa Cum-Laude with a Master’s degree in clinical social work. Most of the clinical experience that I have done involves working with school aged children, parents, and families. I also have a great deal of experience navigating the IEP process, working with special needs children and their families. More recently my work involves providing outpatient therapeutic services to school aged children age K-8th grade and their parents. These services include, diagnosis, treatment planning and medication management of disorders such as Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant disorder, Social skills deficits, anxiety disorder and issues of loss. I have been working with children and their parents in the group setting for the past 6 years and have knowledge in parenting techniques that improve family functioning.

Other areas of expertise include working with young people in an athletic setting. I have been coaching professionally for the past 8 years and I’ve always felt as though life lessons are often taught and better received through athletic competition and training.

My hobbies include Ice Hockey, spending time with my wife, daughter, family and friends.

All kids act out from time to time, feel sad or angry or respond to family, friends and school in a way that shows they are upset, worried or frustrated. Many times these children and teens need to talk to a person who understands how hard it is sometimes to be a kid and can offer insight and guidance. The child’s feelings may come from problems in the family such as martial problems, divorce, sibling rivalry or other stressful situations like moving homes or schools.

Located on our campus in Kearny Mesa, the SDCC Counseling Center can help your child, teen and family members through these tough times. The goal of our therapists is to move your child toward becoming a productive adult by providing him or her with the tools to understand and control emotions and behaviors.

Therapists also work directly with you and family members, offering guidance on how to interact with the child at home while providing ongoing support through counseling and education.

The Counseling Center offers individual, group, family and marital counseling.
Let us help. Call us at (858) 569-2101.

http://www.reinaremy.blogspot.com/

My clinical experience has specialized in working with children, adolescents and their families. I interned for a year at Rady Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry offering outpatient therapy to children, adolescents, and their families. I then worked at The San Diego Center for Children in a residential treatment (level 14) program for six years as a therapist for emotionally disturbed children, young adolescents, and their families. These children and their families often had experienced sexual, verbal, and/or physical abuse and/or severe neglect and abandonment.

In these settings I gained experience doing individual, group, and family therapy, working with parents on parenting difficulties, helping parents navigate the school systems to get their children’s needs met with teachers or through IEP meetings, and connecting families with other needed community resources. I currently have a private practice as an outpatient therapist at Integrative Psychological & Assessment Services in Kearny Mesa

I have had post-graduate training in play therapy, gestalt therapy, expressive arts, and techniques for working with how the body holds in emotions and stress such as trauma releasing exercises, relaxation skills, and yoga. I feel it is important to develop therapeutic relationships with my clients in order to work through these modalities to allow expression of thoughts and feelings in order to let what is inside out. These techniques also enhance a child’s coping techniques of learning to appropriately express their feelings and build their self-esteem by gaining a sense of mastery.
