My clinical experience has specialized in working with children, adolescents and their families. I started my career working in a day treatment program for children whom displayed oppositional and aggressive behaviors. After that, I worked as a residential therapist with emotionally disturbed adolescents and their families. These adolescents often had experienced sexual, verbal, and/or physical abuse. I currently work as a school therapist in a nonpublic school which focuses on educating emotionally disturbed students. I work on a daily basis with teachers, staff, students, and families in creating experiences for students in which they are successful. I have experience in Individual Education Plans, Behavioral Support Plans, and Functional Analysis Development and Implementation.
My expertise is in treating issues associated with physical, sexual and emotional abuse, adoptions, ADHD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, divorce, post traumatic stress disorder, attachment disorder, social skills, educational difficulties, oppositional behaviors, and loss that has effected children and young adults. I enjoy working with all types of family dynamics and believe that when working with a child, parent’s involvement is a vital part towards a successful change.
In working with all clients I take into consideration the relationship between body, mind, and emotions. Through connecting those entities one can have a fulfilling and authentic life. When working with children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with any mood disorder, anxiety disorders, or whom have attention difficulties I utilize techniques that focus on the body, mind, and their emotions to help them self manage their difficulties. I strive to teach young people how to connect and use each of those entities to stay true to themselves and make the best decision for themselves.
All kids act out from time to time, feel sad or angry or respond to family, friends and school in a way that shows they are upset, worried or frustrated. Many times these children and teens need to talk to a person who understands how hard it is sometimes to be a kid and can offer insight and guidance. The child’s feelings may come from problems in the family such as martial problems, divorce, sibling rivalry or other stressful situations like moving homes or schools.
Located on our campus in Kearny Mesa, the SDCC Counseling Center can help your child, teen and family members through these tough times. The goal of our therapists is to move your child toward becoming a productive adult by providing him or her with the tools to understand and control emotions and behaviors.
Therapists also work directly with you and family members, offering guidance on how to interact with the child at home while providing ongoing support through counseling and education.
The Counseling Center offers individual, group, family and marital counseling.

My clinical experience has specialized in working with children, adolescents and their families. I interned for a year at Rady Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry offering outpatient therapy to children, adolescents, and their families. I then worked at The San Diego Center for Children in a residential treatment (level 14) program for six years as a therapist for emotionally disturbed children, young adolescents, and their families. These children and their families often had experienced sexual, verbal, and/or physical abuse and/or severe neglect and abandonment.
In these settings I gained experience doing individual, group, and family therapy, working with parents on parenting difficulties, helping parents navigate the school systems to get their children’s needs met with teachers or through IEP meetings, and connecting families with other needed community resources. I currently have a private practice as an outpatient therapist at Integrative Psychological & Assessment Services in Kearny Mesa
I have had post-graduate training in play therapy, gestalt therapy, expressive arts, and techniques for working with how the body holds in emotions and stress such as trauma releasing exercises, relaxation skills, and yoga. I feel it is important to develop therapeutic relationships with my clients in order to work through these modalities to allow expression of thoughts and feelings in order to let what is inside out. These techniques also enhance a child’s coping techniques of learning to appropriately express their feelings and build their self-esteem by gaining a sense of mastery.
